The Tiger’s Den Christian Childcare Center is the latchkey care program of St. John Lutheran School & Preschool.

The Tiger’s Den Christian Childcare Center has been established as an outreach ministry to the community of Defiance. Our main purpose is to offer quality Christian educational childcare for working parents.

The Center is open throughout the school year and we also offer a Summer Camp childcare program for both preschoolers and school-aged children. Our promise to each family is to work diligently to provide the highest quality childcare within an atmosphere where Christ is prevalent and Christian faith is evident by all who come in contact with your child. We provide your child with childcare that will build friendships in a positive learning environment!

The curriculum in our preschool-age program is designed to meet or exceed Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards.  These standards were created for children from birth through kindergarten.  The purpose of these standards is to support the development and well-being of young children and to foster their learning.  The standards include social/emotional development, language, and literacy development, physical and well-being development, cognitive development, and general knowledge which includes math, science, and social studies.
The curriculum in our school-age program is Building the Primary Classroom which assists children to learn and grow beyond the classroom.

“Preschool child” means a child who has not entered kindergarten and is not of compulsory school age as defined in section 3321.01 of the Revised Code. The Tiger's Den policy is to have preschool students that are age 5 and entering kindergarten in the fall participate in the preschool-age program during the summer. If a parent would prefer their child to attend the school-age program it is up to their discretion Tiger's Den will allow the change. If a child is not yet 3 but enrolled in the St. John Lutheran Preschool Program and will turn 3 on or before September 30, they are eligible to use the Tiger's Den on the first day of the school year.

Our preschool-age program is a continuation of our St. John preschool offering fun educational experiences for your child to learn.

“School-age child” means a person who is in kindergarten or age six and of compulsory school age according to the entry date determined by the school district in section 3321.01 of the Revised Code.
Our program is currently open to children enrolled in St. John Lutheran School. If there are spots available, we will consider enrolling students from Defiance City Schools. We also have care available for school delays, closings, and summer vacations.

Summer Time

Our program is open through the summer for all children, ages 3 through grade 8.

Field Trips

Occasionally during the summer, the school-age children participate in a variety of field trips and fun activities to fill the days over summer break.
